Day Twenty-Five
Went to Du Jiang Yan and Qing Cheng San today! Both have beautiful scenery! Let’s talk about Du Jiang Yan first. It is one of the most successful and famous water irrigation systems in the past which was built 1800 years ago. It dam is separated into 3 major parts namely the Yu Zui (Fish mouth), Xie Hong Dao and Bao Ping Kou. The first part is called the Yu Zui, which was used to separate the river into 2 lanes. One is flow to Chengdu to allow citizens to use; another is directed to the sea. Actually to me, I think that Xie Hong Dao is the most important and useful part of the dam. Xie Hong Dao is the middle of the dam which is built to control the amount of water to prevent floods in Chengdu. The depth of the dam in Xie Hong Dao is always kept at a height of 21.5 metres. If the water exceed the height, which was during summer, it will then flow to the side or the river bank which leads to the sea. In winter, there will be lesser water in the dam thus farmers are invited to clean the river bed each year. Bao Ping Kou is the last part of Du Jiang Yan, it helps to transfer clean water to the cities and villages in Chengdu. Basically, this is how Du Jiang Yan works in the past and now. Today, Du Jiang Yan is a tourist attraction area thus they sell souvenirs and dried food for tourist. Many of us bought biscuits and snacks back for relatives and friends to try the taste of Sichuan spices.
After visiting Du Jiang Yan, we had our lunch nearby before heading to Qing Cheng San. Another tourist attraction place in Sichuan. We climb up to the cable car station and took cable car up to the top of the mountain. They sell sour plum and tea leaves which was very cheap. Elderly likes to eat sour plum especially my parents so I decided to buy some back for them to try. Actually there is nothing much about Qing Cheng San except the temple up in the hill. We went up to pray and some of them bought the pendant for their family members as a protective amulet.
