Day Twelve
We have lesson on a Sunday morning ! The sun is so far but yet it looks so near to us. Today was actually a make-up lesson for thursday. This is the first time I had a lesson on a Sunday. However, Mr. Lim was so kind that he release us early. :) Today our lunch is so special because Mr. Nick. Wu Kai and Doyle came to our room to cook. Firstly we put the vegetables in boiling salt water. After 3 minutes, we take out the vegetables and add some soya sauce onto it. The steps are so simple and it taste great. Although I don't really know what kind of vegetable is that but that would be a perfect meal if there is rice.
Today's plan was to accompany Melissa (my roommate) to the hospital to treat her swollen finger due to infection and then go to karaoke but the car is full. Thus, I have to stay in the dorm to wait for her. After she came back from the hospital, her finger was bandaged and it is painful according to her. She had a mini surgery and two anesthetic vaccine. The anesthetic wear off in about an hour time that causes drowsiness. In the end we didn't go to karaoke because Melissa want to have more rest. Many people came to our room to visit her. Our room has become like a hospital ward because people are coming in and out to look at Melissa's finger. Hope she will be fine and I can help her in whatever she needs in this few days. Well, having lesson tomorrow morning so I better turn in early, goodnight readers !

Day ElevenToday we visited the Sichuan earthquake site at Wenchuan town. This earthquake happened in 12 May 2008 with 69 thousand dead, 374 thousand injured and 18 thousand missing. The place was still under construction by Dongfang turbing cooperation. Dongfang cooperation covers thermal power, solar power, wind power and water pipes.

Day TenLesson as per usual but our meals are different. During IS lesson, we learn about China’s Contemporary political and economic system. Mao suit is name after the president of China, Mao Ze Dong. We had Korean clay pot rice outside the school for lunch. On our way back to school there’s a small street stall selling goreng pisang. It’s so different from our eating style. He cut the banana into slices before deep frying and he add condensed milk on it. It is awesome and delicious! This is a must try snack.

Day NineWe had a visit to the Volkswagen Automotive company for a tour. The factory is huge with all high-tech automated machines and welding equipment we used in practical. It may look easy to operate and weld but actually it is difficult. Although our practical is easy because we just need to weld a straight line but it took 4 hours to learn it. The straight line is hard to control and the welding torch is rather heavy.
Other than visiting the cars company, we went to Gu Cheng Street to shop. If I am not wrong, that place is one of the tourist attraction Street in Sichuan. J I see many people trying the traditional costumes represent different characters such as princess, emperor, soldier and etc. It looks interesting and I am so interested in trying the costumes but seems like none of them are interested. It’s quite awkward to wear the costume alone I think. We also had our lunch outside with the local students. This is the first time I tried rabbit meat. I know it’s kind of inhumane but it taste normal and quite nice, better than eating dog meat.

Day Seven and EightThese two days during the IS lesson, we learn about the Chinese traditional culture and etiquette, Religions and Chinese traditional culture. They only have five major festivals mainly the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year), Yuan xiao jie (Dumping day), Qing ming jie (Tomb-sweeping day), Zhong que jie (Mid-autumn festival) and Chong yang jie (Ninth of the ninth month). They taught us the process of making green tea leaves and the key point is fresh. Tea is divided into 4 different ways of fixation such as roasted, backed, sun withering and steamed. In China there are 3 major religions namely Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Besides that, also get to know how these 3 religions come together and stuffs.
I usually help my mother with household chores so I have no problem washing my own clothes but, due to the cold weather our clothes need about 3 days to dry. Thus my roommate and I decided to take our clothes for dry wash.
After school we had a cultural activity, a basketball competition with the China students. It was a spectacular match because our score were very near. It seems like an international match. The spectators, like us, are more excited and nervous than the players. Everybody is cheering for their country. In the end we lost but the scores are not far away. Hope this match allows both parties to make more friends.

Day SixToday is the first lesson of IS teaching us about the history, culture, weather, food and tourism of Sichuan. As for the tourism, people describe Sichuan as abundant and diverse because of Du Jiang Yan. It was a project done by the Shi State’s emperor, Li Bing, and his son to minimize the risk of floods and draught during 256BC. This project is so successful that there is no serious draughts and floods since the Han dynasty. It makes Sichuan one of the most productive agriculture places. In order to remember Li Bing and his son, people built a temple name Er Wang Miao. Today, it becomes a major tourist attraction. Besides that, Sichuan is divided into 4 prefectures consisting of Yizhou, Jizhou, Kuizhou and Zizhou. Sichuan is called the Land of abundance (Tian Fu Zhi Yuan) due to land fertile, climate temperature, rainfall sufficient, rich agriculture and etc. It also means to allow the citizens to stay comfortably (Shu fu). The weather of Sichuan is rather humid, mild and subtropical. When it comes to dinner time, we always ask the China students to join us along so as to recommend some delicious food beside the school. It is like a mini gathering. We had “gan guo” which is similar to steamboat but this is dry. Their foods are not only hot and spicy but also numb your lips, and tongue and mouth. This is what so special about Sichuan’s spices. I don’t really eat spicy food but I enjoy it until I can’t stop eating. Maybe I should but some Sichuan spices back to Singapore for my family and relatives to try.

Day FiveOur plan today is to go out in small groups with the guide of the China students. Other groups went to guanghan city to shop, we went to fly kite along the river in front of the school. Actually we are supposed to pluck strawberries at some garden but the seniors say that there’s no more strawberries left thus we went to fly kite. The students from china usually spent of their time doing things they like such as sports and playing their own musical instrument. Most of them work as part-timer in order to earn money for their own expenditures. Spring in Chengdu has stronger wind then other seasons therefore it is easier to fly kite. We also went to Guanghan city to shop.
